Photo Challenge

Earlier this week I posed a question on Instagram; Do you think you could produce a series of images in just one day? 50 people said yes, they think they could. I thought this would be a great idea to put to the test, so I asked for people to take up the challenge.

Produce 6 final images in a single day. That was it, there was no set theme, just all the images had to be shot on the same day. All in the name of fun and challenging ourselves to get creative!

The photos were taken at the serpentine swimming club which is situated in London’s Hyde Park, the swimmers take the lake every morning throughout the year. This was my first time taking photos, I used both my Ricoh GRII and Fujifilm X-T2 on this winters morning.

So I have been out a couple of times to shoot along the seafront. The first evening was after dark and had very little going on. I came back with a handful of images but wasn’t truly happy with any of them. I took another chance to head out and shoot Saturday afternoon. This time I made it for sunset and twilight. A much better day and time to shoot! The photos I have decided to share are simply a reaction to my evening along the seafront. The light was beautiful and it seemed very still, I reacted to this in a way that I thought summed it up best.

The pictures were all taken on November 29, 2019 in Stuttgart, Germany during the Global Climate Strike. The behaviour and expression of the people who didn't take part in the strike was quite interesting for me, so I put my eyes on them.

Well why not - Here’s the first set of images that I shot Thursday night along the seafront after dark. Normally I tend to shoot while moving around but low light and long exposures demanded working with a tripod. A slow process than what I am normally used to with some slightly different results.

Friday night in Stamford, all photos where taken between 19:30 and 21:30. I had a couple of ideas that I wanted to shoot, but really struggled. On reviewing the images I noticed I had a lot of red tones... so I went with that!

I have to say I really enjoyed the challenge, I just wish I had more time.

Abandonment was the theme of my 6 images, often I wander around and see buildings which have been vacated or random objects in places which you wouldn't expect. This often leads to questions in my mind as how and why this is the case.

I have taken a series of images during a walk with the dog in the fog. There’s nothing any more complicated than that! The fog was very thick and it was absolutely silent out. I hope I’ve caught the surreal and calming mood of the moment.

I really enjoyed your brief. I’m not sure whether I answered your question on Instagram, but I thought about doing it when you asked the question, and then the weather threw me something magical, and I knew I had to try and use it! Personally, these are some of my favourite pictures I’ve made!
